People ask us why we called this book "Sacred."
Dictionaries cite "regarded with reverence," "divine," and "immune
from violence" as definitions. We think that all of those are
applicable -- applicable to women's purses in general, to women, to
writing, and to the process of creativity.
The authors of the book are:
- Cindy Dragas
- Pam Northam
- Pam Racine
- Selden Richards
- Judy Kozonis Snider
- Jean Mackay Vinson
- Debi Tomalis Wacker
- Anya Wolfenden
A portion of the proceeds of the
sales of this book are given
directly to shelters and transitional
housing for physically, emotionally
and sexually abused women,
teenagers, and children.
A woman who chooses to remain anonymous contributed The
Heavy Metal Door and the piece that we came to actually name
"The Sacred Purse."
Jessica Langston, a graphic design and fine arts student at Drury
University in Missouri did the layout and design for TSP. Her cover
design was chosen out of a possible 35+ designs from an
assignment completed by the students in Misty Ware's first year
class. When we received the designs, we were astounded at the
artistry and depth of each person's perspective. We spread them
all over the desks in Pam Racine's classroom, walked around,
"ooh'ed" and "aaah'ed," and fell silent when we came upon
Jessica's approach. We knew it was sacred, and we knew it
captured what our writings were all about.
Some interesting facts about the authors...
- Three are native Michiganders
- All are mothers
- All currently live in Virginia Beach
- All have a profound love of writing and family
- Four are published authors
